Wines in Prime Locations

Much like in real estate, location, location, and location are deemed to be among the most important elements in producing great wine. That’s because the geographical climate and natural topography inevitably impact the growth and quality of the grapes that will be later turned into wine.

Our wines come from three distinctive California wine regions: Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino counties. Each of these locations has its own perks and advantages when it comes to producing great-tasting wine.

Napa, for example, may be small in terms of regional size, especially compared to Bordeaux, France. But nonetheless, its topographical diversity makes it more than capable of competing head-on when it comes to delivering richness in quality and flavor.

Napa Valley is known for Cabernet Sauvignon. Climate, soil, and terrain are what make Napa unique. Napa Valley's climate is very rarethe summers are warm, the winters are mild, and it only rains for a few months a year. This gives the vines a long growing season. The warm days allow the grapes to ripen and develop a deep flavor and sugarwhich later ferments into alcohol. Meanwhile, the cool morning fog allows the vines to rest and preserve acid in the fruit.

Napa Valley is a small winemaking region—it is just 30 miles long and 5 miles wide. In contrast, Bordeaux in France is eight times larger than Napa Valley. Despite the small size of Napa Valley, its topographical diversity more than makes up for it in the wines it produces. Napa Valley is home to mountain terrain, valley floors, and benchlands—flat terrain surrounded by high slopes.

As for Sonoma, its varying geography, from valleys to mountains to beaches to coast, all contribute to a dynamic production experience for unique and distinct wine flavors.

Sonoma County's range of geography—valleys to mountains, coastal ranges to inland benchlands—is second to none. The size and distance between these distinctive AVAs ensure individualism of wines, viticultural approaches, and myriad philosophies of winemaking.

Sonoma County is renowned for producing high-quality wines of distinction. The region is also a standard-bearer for best practices beyond just wine production, as a champion of true sustainability.

Meanwhile, Mendocino County is known to be a comfortable home for both red and white grape varieties. Its cooler areas are perfect for Pinot Noir, sparkling wines, and Chardonnay. Meanwhile, the warmer areas are great for more robust red wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Syrah, and Zinfandel.

Our winemakers:

Gregory Graziano – Mendocino County

Gregory Graziano is not new to winemaking. He has over fifty years of experience in wine and graduated from UC Davis’ Viticulture and Enology program. He is an award-winning winemaker who comes from a long line of Italian winemakers and brings a level of excellence and skill to winemaking that only comes from seasoned experts.

It is a tale of travel, immigration, hard work, and dedication to winemaking that brought Gregory Graziano and Maria Reznikova together to make wine. Bonding over their love of wine and Italy, penchant for travel, and unique Russian-Jewish and Italian heritage, Reznikova and Graziano formed a friendship that turned into a business adventure—and Maria Concetto Winery was born.

Harnessing the perfect terroir of the Mendocino valley, Graziano ensures that each vintage is full of flavors characteristic to their varietals and the climate from which they originate.

Patrick Saboe – Napa and Sonoma Valley

Patrick Saboe has over twenty years of experience in the world of wine. It was during his honeymoon in California wine country that he truly fell in love with wine. He left the world of wine sales to pursue a career in winemaking.

At UC Davis, he studied viticulture and enology and launched his post-grad career as Harvest Enologist at Hanna Winery and then Assistant Winemaker at Keller Estate. Over the years, he has refined his blending skills and spares no creativity in his science. Patrick is an award-winning winemaker who crafts exquisite blends with the utmost precision and expertise.

Every Maria Concetto wine that Patrick creates embodies his creativity and free-spirited inventiveness.
